As a solo artist Geoff has won acclaim from Cairns to Sydney, his unique style of lap steel slide, acoustic tapping slide and mind rattling rhythm based acoustic has him titled as a captivator of audiences (Townsville bulletin) with a unique gift for music (lismore uni). His amazing variation in styles, rhythm and attack provides a show full of energy that never fails to intrigue.
Geoff grew up on the outskirts of Kempsey N.S.W, and was influenced by many of the fine musicians that had settled there for the quieter life. Musical styles came many and varied, with bluegrass, folk and rock being apart of the family jam sessions. As the youngest sibling major influences came from his two older brothers (Simon-Drums and Jason-Guitar) who performed regularly in the band Midian. Many of Geoff's rhythmic songs are the result of drum tuition from Simon. High school saw the influences of Jazz and flamenco expand his style and repertoire and saw him gain first place in his HSC music. Geoff then moved to Townsville to study Science and there he first felt the rewards of solo performances winning the university Band comp and then gaining second position at the state final in lismore (99).
Career advances then saw him move to Brisbane to study Biomedical science majoring in neuroscience. Geoff again won the university band comp in 2002 at UQ and was awarded best musician at the QLD state final. Geoff now is undertaking a PHD in Brain regeneration and repair at UQ whilst performing in solo and band mode (Introduced Species) to release the stress of work life. His latest album, ‘From IS-land' recorded by Anthony Lyncenko at Rockinghorse studio's Byron Bay is set to be released in the New year.
